Tips for maintaining a motor boat
Do you want the good maintenance of the motor of your boat? Here is a list of tips to help you make a good maintenance, prevent problems and you can find a good OMC outdrive repair and extend the life of your boat motor.

Alarm indicators. Do not ignore dashboard indicators because they can warn of future problems. If the lights are of poor quality or very low consumption, it may not be very visible in broad daylight, passing unnoticed. If you opt for audible indicators, these should be audible even when the boat is at full power.

The thermostat in the correct position. It is a common mistake to install the engine thermostat with sensor outward, so if the engine overheats, you'll learn when you start the engine out smoke.

Listen to your engine. A sharp noise can indicate that a belt is loose. Metallic and pace of engine speed taps may mean there is a problem with valves, elevators or rocker arms. Metallic squeaks can come from a pump bearing loose water. If leakage becomes noisier, probably because it is receiving little cooling water, therefore you need to check the water pump.

Check the gauges. Regularly inspect indicators, some owners adjust them so that the needles are vertical when the operation is correct. This makes it easier to detect when a change occurs.

Antifreeze. Follow the manufacturer's instructions not always use pure antifreeze is better. Sometimes it is necessary to mix it with water as antifreeze has a temperature greater than the boiling water; thus retains more heat and makes it more likely that the engine overheating.

Do not start the engine without water. When testing the engine with the stranded boat propeller and without submerging in water, even for a few seconds, it can damage the pump impeller, as it uses water to lubricate.

Use quality oil. Lubricate the engine with cheap oil can be very expensive. Quality oils are more uniform and stable in all conditions.

The correct filters. Diesel engines and gasoline should have two filters. The first filter should be thicker (30 microns), and the finer (2 microns) below. Thus the load is distributed filtering, the result is better and the service life of the filters and the motor is lengthened.

Vibration. If your bow rail starts to shake every time the boat starts to plan, but do not sit on the helmet, it is likely that one of its propeller blades are bent. A vibration only certain revolutions may mean that the propeller needs to be balanced. When the full boat stirring at any speed, the engine and crankshaft are misaligned.

Suction. The water jet engines provide an insight into shallow water, but be careful. These engines use some of the water sucks to be refrigerated, so if there is sand or dirt, the cooling system may become clogged. Therefore it is important to respect a minimum depth; or at least sail fast, so that the boat up and use water from the engine closest to the surface layer.

Rinse. After each use, clean the engine with fresh water for 10 minutes to make it flow through the engine by dragging any dirt that accumulates. Do not rev the engine before turning it off with the idea that it will be easier later on.
Turn off the switch. When you change the battery switch when the engine is running, never pass through the Off position (off).  This can turn off the diode and damage the alternator.

Anode. In addition to the drive shaft, the engines also have inside zinc alloy blocks that need to be replaced with every oil change. If left for a long time, it will start to fall apart and create partítulas that could obstruct its cooling system.

Stainless steel. Make sure hose clamps are made of stainless steel, and very important: the screw should also be stainless. A damaged clamp is a sure way to be leaking water or fuel.

Beware of fishing lines. Avoid leaving fishing lines or ropes astern as they can get tangled in the propeller. If the engine is operated and tangles can damage the bearings, gears scratching transmission, and if the engine mounts are weak, pull the engine and let misaligned.

Prevent corrosion. Keep electrical motor connectors covered with Vaseline or protector repels moisture. You also need a damp cloth with fresh water from time to time to remove the salt crystals that attract moisture. It can also be dry cleaned and spread a thin layer of oil. Change the oil completely Replace the old one with a new one, do not mix. Contact our maintenance service to ensure proper handling.
